Astronomy Camp 2008

I had some fun and a learning experience by traveling to the Steward Observatory on Mt. Lemmon, north of Tucson, Arizona, where I attended Don McCarthy’s astronomy camp for several days.

We played with several telescopes (the 61 inch, 60 inch being used for the Catalina Sky Survey for near earth objects, a RCOS 24 inch, and several others). Don McCarthy made this a fun and informative experience. I particularly enjoyed hunting for asteroids (I discovered a few with the 61” and the sky survey advanced search software), and practicing CCD imaging with Adam Block.
